Absent but still
paid?
People are complaining, Tribal
Council gave themselves a raise and quit attending meetings. I looked at
their compensation statute and it defines: “Compensation”
means the amount of annual pay for attendance at regularly scheduled Tribal
Council meetings, I
think attendance is the key term and they forgot to make accommodations for
absences in the salary calculations. As required in the Constitution “Compensation”
wouldn’t go up or down but it implies pay for service. Absences even sabbaticals
or leaves for ceremonies could be easily accommodated in a manner that
meets the Constitution and is fair to all concerned.
