Ethics
Several Tribal Members complained to
me that we need better ethics laws. While true, often the issues are not
ethics but simply bad decisions. Making bad business decisions will happen
and should be controlled with better appointments. On the other hand,
hiding the results of bad decisions is unethical. Hiding bad decisions are
better resolved with more effective sunshine legislation. If everyone can
see what everyone is doing, we will start making more careful deliberate
business decisions. The real teeth in ethics is
changing the ethics statute to simply publicly identifying actions and
actors so the voters can vote out bad actors, in other words more sunshine.
