Tribal Preference
The Tribal
Preference Statute has been changed multiple times yet fails to provide
methods to provide and protect our jobs from others who permanently hold jobs.
The first thing we need to write into law is requiring a registry of
professions, degrees, training and skills that our Tribal Members possess.
The second is to define critical needs positions such as doctors, nurses,
accountants, scientists and engineers etc.
Once the hiring
process starts HR should be required to contact all Tribal Members with
matching or compatible credentials to offer a preferential interview and
job opportunity prior to contacting any non-Tribal Members.
I
once successfully proposed a 2-year contract for non-Tribal Members. It was
considered too extreme and rescinded. I think a variable length contract or
Work Visa might work better. The more skill required the longer the
contract would last. Giving jobs away permanently denies our youth of these
opportunities.
